Tonala Suprema Reserva Anejo (4 Yr) [edit]Ron The biggest thing to stand out (in my mind) about this tequila is taste - it tastes great. It has a mild-medium bite, a hint of sweet, and then it's a party on the tongue and warmth that follows puts the perfect exclaimation point on the whole experience. the Tenoch Reposado Tenoch Reposado. A fine reposado in a clever bottle [edit] Tenoch Reposado Review [edit] Josh's thoughts This reposado has hints of oak and a sweet caramel after a nice tingle to the tongue. The flavor lingers for some time slowly moving to a nice mild bitter finish. It goes down smooth and is quite pleasant. I was a bit worried about this one because of the cool bottle but the quality of this tequila holds up to the clever marketing. I don't usually enjoy a reposado as much as this one. Rey Sol Rey Sol Anejo. [edit] Rey Sol Review REY SOL 100% de Agave is the extra-aged tequila par excellence from "Casa San Matias". Among the finest tequilas available, it undergoes careful aging for at least five years in the finest oak barrels, under the strict scrutiny that only the "Casa San Matias" distillers give to their products. To design a bottle with a personality worthy of presenting a truly distinguished Tequila, it was procured the services of a renowned artist, Sergio Bustamante, whose work has received acclaim in Mexico and around the world. REY SOL, like all the fine liquors of the world, is meant to be enjoyed by itself. [edit] Josh's thoughts A premium tequila without any doubt. Slightly sweet with a touch of vanilla and butterscotch similar to 1942 but much more subdued. It has more a proper tequila flavor than the 1942. Patron Platinum [edit]Ron this one is pricey. cheapest i could find was $24/shot, which is low for this puppy. luckily they hadn't sold much so i'd say i got the second or third shot of the bottle. it was fairly smooth, not much bite, but it was also safe in the flavor department (as you would expect from a blanco that looks like water in the glass). it didn't do anything risky - just played it safe and smooth. so in light of its amazing smoothness i guess nearly $200/bottle might seam justified to the Patron Partida Anejo Partida Anejo. [edit] Partida Anejo Review [edit] Josh's thoughts Aroma throws you off a bit. Very smooth with good flavor. Nice bitter aftertaste. Patron Anejo Review [edit] Josh's thoughts This, the standard Premium Tequila in America, is very consistent with a good agave flavor. It has a little more bite than some other fine tequilas but remains the de-facto standard of tequilas available in America. You can get this stuff almost anywhere. With its rich aroma and delightful flavor you really can't go wrong especially with a night out on the town. Patron Anejo makes a great starter tequila for those interested in exploring fine tequila. Herradura Seleccion Suprema Herradura Seleccion Suprema. An absolutely superb tequila. [edit] Josh's thoughts Starts with a wonderful slightly bitter yet fragrant agave flavor and finishes with a sweet vanilla. Goes down smooth with just a hint of bite which works perfectly with the mild bitter start. It numbs the lips and warms the body while sending a feeling of content throughout. This is a superb tequila! Herradura Anejo Review [edit] At First [edit] Ron Says... smell strong with a bit of a bite initial taste biting on the tongue but not too much so (a bit much for a top-shelf anejo imho) going down fairly easy (glassy) but the tongue takes a bit of a beating (tingles a bit) warmth nice - get the feeling that it's a strong tequila after-taste fairly clean overall not bad, but i hope it mellows by tomorrow [edit] Josh's thoughts smell - a bit of a strong alcohol odor and it did bite just a little initial taste - mild bite, good flavor going down - after the initial bite very smooth, quite nice warmth - slow rolling warmth all the way down. lingered for some time. impression - pretty good, definitely has good potential. [edit] Later [edit]Ron smell a bit stronger after sitting for a few weeks initial taste the bite is a little stronger, but still ok going down goes down ok - not quite as smooth as when first opened, but much better than many other anejos warmth milder, actually, tho maybe it's because i've had a few after-taste still very clean overall it didn't mellow much, but it held up well to time - tho i wouldn't give it more than 1 month after opening. Gran Centenario Azul Gran Reserva (Redirected from Gran Centenario Gran Reserva Azul) Gran Centenario Gran Reserva Azul [edit] Ron Sez... This is, without ANY doubt, the absolute best Gran Centenario that could ever be. All Gran Centenario tequilas have a characteristic "smoky" flavor I first ran into (and hated) in a bottle of Mezcal, but in the Gran Centenario this smoky flavor is more subtle, not overwhelming as it is in the Mezcal. Starting with the plata up to the anejo this smoky flavor gets more subtle, tho for me it's still a little too strong in the anejo (which is why I gave my bottle to Steve). With the Leyenda it's almost perfect, tho the Leyenda lacks a bit of body to the flavor which makes you think it could be better. But with the Gran Reserva it is absolute perfection. This tequila is as close to perfect as any tequila I've ever tried (which puts it in the company of Herradura Selection Suprema and Don Julio Real). There is absolutely no reason not to drink this tequila at any and all opportunity, except that it's not sold at any store in the US and it costs $300+/bottle. But it's hard to resist... [edit] Josh's Thoughts Gran Centenario makes a fine line of tequila with this one placed firmly at the top. It's perfectly smooth with the distinct Centenario smokey flavor. The finish hints slightly at a sweet piece of heaven. Right when I think a tequila couldn't possibly get any better one more comes along. The Gran Reserva absolutely holds its own amongst the finest of tequilas including the Rey Sol and Herradura Selecion Suprema. This easily puts it in the top three best tequilas I've had. This one is hard to come by however so I may not want to share it as readily as the HSS. :) If you are offered a taste do not turn it down. Of course the bottle is an eye catching addition to any collection. Gran Centenario Reposado Review [edit] At First [edit] Steve says... smell not too strong, not much bite detected initial taste very comfortable, easy to take in going down pretty easy warmth nice, but doesn't feel overpowering after-taste very clean overall my favorite [edit] Later ...to be seen... El Tesoro Anejo Paradiso Don Julio Real Anejo Review [edit] Ron's thoughts This tequila is mild almost to a fault. you feel almost like you're drinking something that has been watered down with really good water. it has, at first opening, almost zero bite - more like a mild tingle. the flavor is perfect, yet subdued. it's a lean back and relax sort of tequila. the best thing about it is its lack of faults - it tests exactly like what a tequila should taste like. it's only fault is that it's safe - it takes no risks with the flavor so there are no surprises. one surprise, tho, was that it developed a bit of a bite a week after being opened. it's still the best, but it's not as good as that first shot, but then again isn't it (almost) always that way with things? actually i rather miss the sweetness of the 1942, which balances it slightly more significant bite with the pleasant sweet - when Real acquires a bite there's nothing there to balance it. [edit] Don Julio 1942 Anejo Review [edit] Josh's thoughts Sweet like butterscotch. Warming finish. Perfect bite. This is one of the very best I've had. Only recently trumped by the Herradura Seleccion Suprema. Still the 1942 is a fantastic tequila and highly recommended! Thanks, Ron for picking this one up!!! Once again: You da man!!! [edit] Steve's thoughts Thanks to Ron I can no longer enjoy any other tequila without comparing it to this magnificent and unparalleled work. If you don't enjoy this one beyond what mere words can convey, you should switch to gin because you're a complete moron! Hands down...the BEST. Case closed. [edit] Ron's thoughts This is the best tequila i've ever had without exception. However... it is not perfect and it is not 100% consistent. I'm now on my second bottle and while the tequila has a wonderfully sweet flavor with mild bite and almost orgasmic finish, you will sometimes get a bit more bite and a bit less sweet and a finish that's a gentle sigh than a "i must go change my shorts" event. But i was content that this was the best tequila i could afford (and the Real is just too outrageously priced and, from what i've heard, very similar, if not slightly inferior, to the 1942) but now i've heard from Josh that the Herradura Seleccion Suprema is the Tequila of the Gods and is MUCH better than the 1942. at $58/shot i'm in no hurry, but some day (hopefully this year) i will try the HSS and the DJReal and then hopefully i will be able to come back to and be content with my favorite sub-$100/bottle of tequila - the Don Julio 1942. :) Corralejo Anejo Review [edit] At First [edit] Josh's thoughts Smell - mellow, woody Initial taste - very mild bite, good flavor Shootability - is that even a word? Going down - very smooth, wonderful woody and fruity flavor. Warmth - makes you want to melt into your chair Impression - this tequila is one of my favorites. [edit] Later [edit] Josh's thoughts Smell - mellow, woody with a hint of caramel. makes my mouth water, yum. Initial taste - no bite at all, delicious flavor Shootability - is that even a word? Going down - very smooth, wonderful woody and fruity flavor. Warmth - like rescuing an old lady's cat from a tree Impression - this is a very good tequila but is best after sitting for a day [edit] Recommendations Let this one sit for a day after opening, it will mature very nicely.
